HMPV infects an infant in Gujarat.

The first Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) infection case has been reported from Gujarat. The virus was detected in a two-month-old baby who was brought to a private hospital in Ahmedabad. At the moment, the child’s status is stable.

A common respiratory virus called HMPV can cause symptoms similar to a cold, including fever, coughing, and runny nose. It can occasionally result in more severe conditions like bronchitis or pneumonia. Although adults can contract HMPV, children are the most prevalent carriers.

Although there isn’t a vaccination for HMPV, there are steps you may do to stop the virus from spreading:

  • Use soap and water to wash your hands frequently.
  • Refrain physical contact with sick persons.
  • If you’re sick, stay at home.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Put used tissues in the garbage.
  • Surfaces that are often touched, including worktops and doorknobs, should be cleaned and disinfected.

Consult your physician if you suspect HMPV. Although HMPV has no known cure, your doctor can help you manage your symptoms.
