Massacre in New Orleans: 10 Killed, 30 Injured in New Year’s Attack
On 1st January 2025 at 3:15 am near the French Quarter in New Orleans City in Louisiana United States, located at the Mississippi River near the Gulf of Mexico. An incident took place making headlines. People were celebrating New Year and suddenly a pickup truck entered the scene and rammed over people killing at least 10 and injuring over 30 people. Videos circulating on social media have captured the incident.
The driver stepped out of his Ford pickup truck/vehicle and started firing on the police officers present at that time. Police responded quickly and neutralized the attacker. According to officials, two police officers were injured but are currently in stable condition.
New Orleans Police Commissioner Anne Kirkpatrick described the attack as deliberate, stating, “This man was hell-bent on creating carnage and damage. He tried to run over as many people as he could.” FBI officials revealed that they were investigating the presence of a potential explosive device at the scene, news agency AP reported.
Eyewitnesses recounted the distressing events as the vehicle surged into the crowd, accompanied by the sound of gunfire. The individual named Kevin Garcia, 22, shared their terrifying experience with CNN, stating “A body came flying at me. I saw the truck slam into people on the sidewalk, and then gunshots rang out.” Another witness, Whit Davis, shared his experience, adding, “Police rushed us out of the area. I saw several bodies and people receiving first aid.”
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell denounced the violence, labeling it a “terrorist attack” and extending her support to the families of the victims. President Joe Biden and Attorney General Merrick Garland received updates regarding the incident, with Biden committing to provide federal assistance.
